Poe was born in Boston in 1809, quite a while ago. He started writing as a teenager, which is quite something He wrote all kinds of stories, but he is best known for creepy, scary stories and poems. His most famous tales include "The Raven," "The Tell-Tale Heart" and "The Fall of the House of Usher. Each of these stories has its own unique way of chilling the spine and nicking at sanity.

Unpacking the Psychological Themes in Poe's Material

Many of Poe’s stories address some large concepts that make us ponder big philosophical questions; namely those related to life and death, as well as what it means to be truly alive. A few of his stories involve people attempting to get out of death or the frightening thoughts in their minds. Other dow poe stories include characters who do awful things out of guilt or fear. This causes the reader to reflect on their own feelings and fears. 


One of the reasons Poe’s stories are so scary is that on some level, they evoke fears we all have buried deep within us. Even if we don’t believe in actual ghosts or killers in real life, we can still relate to the fear and anxiety that Poe's characters feel. It allows the stories to feel more immediate for readers.
